Ravenpaw's Past - Chapter 3

     Screeches of shock came from around the entrance to the camp. Ravenpaw looked up from the Apprentices den, wondering what all of the commotion was. She padded closer, pushing her way through some other cats who were looking also. Mosspaw was walking warily in the lead, with Hailsplash and Shinespot not far behind her. Between the two of them they carried Rainstorm, who appeared to be unconscious. The four cats were all beaten and bloody, clumps of fur missing and large scratches on them. Rainstorm seemed to be the worst off however, she was like the others, but has a large gash in her head. It was pooling blood at a quick pace, and obviously needed to be attended to. 

     Spottedstar padded up just as Hailsplash and Shinespot were taking Rainstorm to the Medicine Cats den. She stopped Mosspaw and meowed, “What happened?”

     Mosspaw simply replied, “Wolves” and hurried after her patrol to the Medicine Cats den. 

     About a half-moon had passed, and Rainstorm was finally almost ready to go back to her Warrior Duties. Her ear flicked, hearing Greenleaf, the Medicine Cat, padding out of her den. "I'm going out to collect some Borrage, we're almost out. I'll be back later." 

     Rainstorm nodded and watched as Greenleaf padded out of the den. She rolled over on her back, her head aching slightly. Oh well, it'll go away soon, she thought. Looking up, she noticed that the sun was just barely peeking over the horizon. Hmm, how's Ravenpaw's training been going? I hope she's not falling too far behind... 

     The entrance to the den rustled, Rainstorm looked over a bit surprised. "Green- Oh! It's you, Ravenpaw." Rainstorm rolled back over onto her belly so that she looked less childish in front of the Apprentice. "What are you doing?"

     Ravenpaw padded up, setting down a mouse at Rainstorms paws. "I just wanted to stop by, bring you some breakfast. I brought you the plumpest mouse on the pile." She smiled, but it looked almost sly. Rainstorm shrugged it off, Ravenpaw could be a bit weird at times. Rainstorm looked down at the mouse, it defenately did look plump. Her mouth watered just slightly. 

     "Thank you, Ravenpaw." Rainstorm bent down to take a bite, but stopped mid-way, remembering about Ravenpaw's training. "Has your training been going well?" She me meowed, looking up at the Apprentice who was sitting about three tail-lengths away. 

     Ravenpaw nodded, "It has. I've been training with Stormpaw and the other Apprentices." she motioned with her tail at the mouse, "Now eat, Rainstorm. You look hungry." 

     Rainstorm nodded, "Okay, fine." She than took a bite of the mouse. A couple more bites. Something felt... Weird. "Hey Ravenpaw, was this mouse old? It's sort of giving me a stomach ache..." 

     "Oh I assure you, it was not an old mouse." Ravenpaw meowed, a glint in her eye. 

     "Oh, maybe it was-" Rainstorms stomach started churning, it felt awful. "R-Ravenpaw, what is-" mid-sentence Rainstorm coughed, a splatter of foam spat out of her mouth. She unsheathed her claws and dug them into the ground, a reaction to the pain. One of her claws sunk into the mouse, rolling it over ever so slightly. Something shinned from... Inside of the mouse? 

     It rolled out of the mouse, onto the ground just in front of her. It was a small, red berry. 

     Death Berries. 

     "Ravenpaw!" She coughed, more foam splattered onto the ground. 

     Ravenpaw just sat and watched her. Her eyes narrowed, sparkling. She grinned, "Finally. It was about time." she snickered, watching as Rainstorm withered on the ground, spitting out foam. A speck of blood splattered from Rainstorms mouth, followed by several more. "It's almost over," Ravenpaw meowed. She watched as the blood splattered crimson against the bubbly white foam.

     Rainstorm lie still.
